RAVENA – Bert P. Bruno,
92, entered eternal life Sunday, January 17, 2010 at the Veterans
Hospital, Albany. Bert was an Army veteran serving during WWII with
the 82nd Airborne Division, the recipient of the Bronze Star. Bert
along with his business partner, John DeFlumer, owned the former
Ra-Co Aluminum in Ravena. He also retired from the former NY
Central Railroad after many years of service.
In 1957 Bert bowled
a perfect 300 game, the first in Ravena. He played first base in
the Albany Twilight League at Bleeker Stadium for the NY Central
predeceased by his wife Ruth A. Bruno in 2002. Survivors include
his daughter Ellen and her husband Tim Childs; granddaughters,
Stephanie (Al) Rubino, Tracey (Bill) Waters and Tricia (John)
Kandefer-Margic; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Louis, James and
John (Carol) Bruno; sisters, Josephine DeBarthe, Marie McCormick
and Gloria (Joe) Campoli; and many special nieces and nephews.
Bert was also predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Anna Bruno, son
John Kandefer, brothers, Frank and Joe Bruno and sisters, Rose
Schwalb and Nancy Pucci.
will be held 9 AM Friday, January 22nd at St. Patrick’s Church,
Ravena. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Coeymans.
Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Thursday
from 3 to 7 PM. Contributions in memory of Bert may be made to St.
