Elizabeth “Betty” Makely - April 20, 2009


ORMOND BEACH, FL – Elizabeth “Betty” Makely, formerly of Ravena, passed away peacefully after a long illness with her loving family by her side on April 20, 2009 in Florida.  Elizabeth was born on February 24, 1933 in Troy, NY daughter of the late Ernest and Anna Marie Swartout.  She was a registered nurse and graduated from the Metropolitan School of Nursing in New York City.  Her first nursing position was with the VA Hospital in Albany, NY.  She served as the charge nurse in the Special Nursing Unit at Albany Medical Center Hospital and later as the supervising nurse for Capital District Eye Surgery Associates until her retirement in 1995 to Ormond Beach, Florida. 

     Betty was an avid golfer, a member of the Moose Lodge in Ormond Beach and a member of the Congregational Christian Church, Ravena.

     Survivors include her husband;  William A. Makely of Ormond Beach, FL;  daughter, Debra A. Shave (Craig) of Ravena;  son, Kevin M. Makely (Terri) of Gloversville;  sister, Kathleen Kuhn of Liverpool;  brother, Gerald Swartout of Binghamton;  and grandchildren, Justin and Christopher Tofinchio of Ravena.  Betty was predeceased by her sister  Marion Hoffman.

     A memorial service will be held 11:30 AM Saturday, May 2nd at the Congregational Christian Church, Ravena.  In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Congregational Christian Church, 175 Main St., Ravena, NY 12143.
