RAVENA – George B. Spoor, 82 of Ravena, passed away on Monday March
29, 2010. George was born and lived in Ravena. George was a Navy
Seabee attached to the 5th Marines in the South Pacific and helped
clean up Nagasaki.
After the Navy, George served a 4-year apprenticeship under
his father with Spoor Construction until 1962. He then went into
construction, building chimneys all over the country including the
Ravena cement plant. After that, he went to Arizona to drive truck
for Dealers Transit and Roadway. He then came back home and was a
self-employed carpenter. George was a Ministerial Servant of
Jehovah’s Witnesses and a member of the construction crew that built
Kingdom Halls professionally.
George was predeceased by his parents, Newton and Kathleen
Spoor. Survivors include his wife, Sally Spoor; children, Newton
(Beth) Spoor, Richard (Walton) Spoor, Jim Spoor, Elizabeth Spoor,
and Diane (Paul) Troilo; step children, William Darlington III,
David Darlington, Barbara (Kerry) Thompson, Gregory (Liah)
Darlington, and Theresa (Bill) Bulmer; 20 grandchildren; and 11
Graveside services will be held at Chestnut Lawn Cemetery
on Friday April 2, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Friends may call at the Babcock
Funeral Home on Thursday April 1, from 4 to 7 PM. Contributions in
