– It is with profound sadness we announce the unexpected passing of
Michael Patrick Costello, born February 5, 1962 passed January 17,
2019. Known to all as Pat, Papa Pat, or Papa, though Papa was his
After attending Greenville Central, Pat served in the United
States Army. He then spent many years in the carpet installing
business. Pat eventually became his own boss with a handy man
“Cap’s In -And-Out side jobs” business and another small venture
with a traveling bait and tackle trailer “The Tug” that he enjoyed
running with his grandchildren.
Pat was admired by all who knew him for his unmatched work
ethic. A man’s man, Pat possessed a love and prowess for fishing.
He also had a passion for hiking through the woods on a cold New
York opening day (the only day he needed), and riding his Harley.
Papa enjoyed nothing more than caring for his grandchildren in
quirky limitless ways that showed them his love.
Above all else, Pat will be remembered and admired for his
unwavering love and devotion to his wife Linda of 27 years, and
anyone blessed enough to call him family or friend. He put everyone
before himself, there was literally nothing Pat wouldn’t do or give
for others. Pats departure leaves a void in all our lives.
Pat is survived by his wife, Linda; parents, Paul and Sandy
Costello; brother Jimmy (Karen); sister, Kathleen Bernesser; sons,
Nicholas W. Klercker (Lauren) and Billy D. Klercker (Stephanie);
daughter, Freda Costello; and grandchildren, Alexandra, Emma, Emily,
Billy Jr., and Mikayla; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on
Tuesday, January 22nd from 5 to 7 PM. Funeral services
will be held 11 AM on Wednesday January 23rd at the
funeral home. Contributions in memory of Pat may be made to the
Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204.
