SELKIRK – William J. Cronin, Jr., 87, passed away on Thursday November 20, 2014 at his daughter Linda’s home in Selkirk. “Bill” was the son of the late William J. Cronin Sr. and Ogarita “Beulah” Harder and step-son of the late Catherine Cronin.

Bill drove tractor trailer for ESSO, now Exxon, for many years and also worked part-time as a police officer for the Village of Ravena in the 1960’s. Bill, along with his wife “Gerry” owned and operated Cronin’s Hardware in Ravena until they retired in the mid 1980’s.

Bill was a World War II US Navy veteran, member of the Ravena American Legion Post, the Tin Can Sailor’s, past member of the Ravena Fire Co., the Ravena Rescue Squad and the R.C. Yacht Club. He was currently a member of the R.C. Sportsman Club, Coxsackie Gun Club, and he was very proud to be a life member of the NRA. Bill loved rifle and trap shooting competition. He also enjoyed many endeavors such as boating, golfing, bowling, motor cycles, snowmobiling, and flying planes!

Bill is predeceased by his loving wife, Geraldine Wilsey Cronin who passed away in 1994. Survivors include his children, Linda (John) Moore of Selkirk, Wayne (Carol) Cronin of Tempe, AZ and Sherri (Mark Brate) Cronin of Selkirk; brothers, Robert (Anita), Kenneth (Chris), Michael (Mary Jo) and Richard Cronin; grandchildren, George Travis, Brian (Deidra) Travis, Colleen Moore and Courtney and Kelly Cronin; great- grandchildren; Skyler and Riley Travis, and Oystin and Jacob Travis. He is also survived by his loving companion Jeanette Fissette.

The family would like to thank Community Hospice of Albany, especially Lindsey and Lacy, for their compassion and the care given to Bill.

Funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday, November 24th at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena. Interment will follow in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore. Friends may call at the funeral Home Sunday from 4 to 7 PM.
