HOLLOW -- Shirley Ida Turner Dowd, passed into the arms of the Lord
on December 6, 2021, six days before her 96th birthday. She was born
December 12, 1925 in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania to George and Ida
(Nauman)Turner. She lived most of her life in both Coeymans Hollow,
New York and Rochester New Hampshire. She was the loving and proud
wife of Albert Dowd.
Shirley was an accomplished woman who was ahead of her times.
She was the first woman on the Board of Directors of the Rochester
Savings and Trust bank in Rochester, New Hampshire, as well as being
on the Board of the Frisbee Memorial Hospital. She was President of
the Haven Hill Garden Club and had one of her arrangement ornaments
chosen to be placed on the Christmas tree at the White House. She
was also appointed to the National Council of State Garden clubs as
a Photographic Representative to the entire New England Region. She
was an outstanding realtor who was named one of New Hampshire’s top
six women in sales for 6 years running. An accomplished cook and
consummate entertainer, she was named as “Cook of the Month” and
featured in the Rochester newspaper. Shirley was an accomplished
artist, and her artwork was displayed on the walls of the hospital
and the Rochester bank. She studied photography under Gustave Lorey
in Albany and New York City, was a member of the Professional
Photographers’ Society of New York and was an admired photographer
of family and wedding photos. Her baking and cake making skills were
well known for weddings and special community occasions. She and Al
loved their fishing trips, gardening, and adventures.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Robert Collins (Deborah) of
Kennebunk, Maine, Raymond Collins (Eileen)of Ravena, N.Y.;
grandchildren, Heather Kulickowski (Eric) of Berwick, Maine, Robert
Collins (Mary Ellen) of Aden, NC, Amy Halpin (Dave) of Colonie, NY,
Erin Collins of Delmar, NY, Rebecca Collins of Ravena, NY Tiffany
Leach (Tyler), Tristy Londorf (Roy) and Tawny Collins of Maine, Ryan
Collins of Ravena, Matthew and Tyler Collins of New York; 18
great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Albert Dowd; brother,
George Turner; sister, Jean Lovecky; son Richard Collins; and
grandson Gavin Collins.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Saturday, December 11,
2021 at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena, followed by burial in
Riverside Cemetery, Coxsackie. Friends may call at the funeral home
prior to the service starting at 10 AM.
