RAVENA
– Edith (Edie Belle) Eck, 81, formerly of Ravena, died peacefully in
her North Carolina home on Friday January 22, 2016, after a long
illness. Edie moved to NC last May to be cared for by her daughter
Carol.
Born in Ravena on Sep 2, 1934, she was the daughter of Clarence and
Reba Van Wormer. She married Robert L. Eck in 1952. Edie was
pre-deceased by her loving husband Robert in 1998, brothers Judd,
Clifford and Walter, sister Marcella and great-grandson William.
She is survived by her son Robert Eck (Julie) of Ravena, daughter
Joyce Perrine (Richard) of Ravena, and daughter Carol Ward (Stephen)
of North Carolina. She is also survived by her sisters Margarite
Eck (Arthur) of Ravena and Marion Covey of Hagerstown, MD, five
grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Edie worked as a bus driver for RCS for over 3 decades before
retiring in 1996. She was active in the Ravena Senior Center where
she enjoyed playing card games and Bingo with her many friends.
Edie was a die-hard Yankees fan.
Edie loved to travel and visited many states and other countries
with Carol and a group of their friends. Her hobbies included
gardening, creating ceramics and feeding her birds. She enjoyed
attending concerts and dining out with her companion of 5 years,
Wilson Cutright.
A
viewing will be held on January 28th at Babcock Funeral home in
Ravena from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday,
January 29th at Babcock Funeral home at 11 a.m.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial
donations be made to the
Lower Cape Fear Hospice of Brunswick County, NC or the
Ravena Senior Center. |
