RAVENA---Theresa S. Giacomini age 89 passed peacefully on March 28, 2012, at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Luigi and Felecia Foro of Coeymans. She married Reno R. Giacomini in 1941 prior to his deployment to the European theater in World War II. As a young war bride, “Tess” worked at the Watervliet Arsenal from 1943 to 1945.
In 1947 and for the next 29 years she touched the lives of many families in Ravena by running a highly regarded day care center. There are many instances of Theresa caring for two generations of children from the same family.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, a 51- year member of the VFW Auxiliary, a member of the Columbiettes and Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed bingo, bowling, playing cards, shooting pool and spending time with friends at the Ravena Senior Projects. She loved spending time with family at Henry Hudson Park.
Theresa was predeceased by her husband and beloved sons, James and Reno Jr., her granddaughter, Lori Giacomini, her brothers Pasquale, Ralph, Salvatore, George, Nicholas and sisters Caroline DiNatale and Nancy Foro.
She is survived by her caregiver and daughter Linda Wood (James) of Niskayuna and her son David (Dusti) of Lockport, NY, her brother Louis Foro, sisters Mary Crocker and Louise Swartout, daughters-in-law Sue Giacomini and Sharon Giacomini O’Neil, her granddaughters Tracy and Carrie, and great grandchildren Danielle, Jack and James, sisters-in-law Catherine Giacomini and Elizabeth DiLornezo and many nieces and nephews.
Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff and volunteers of the Hospice Inn and the 4th Floor Cardio Unit at St. Peter’s Hospital for the wonderful care and compassion she received in her final days. They also thank Theresa’s faithful visitors Ella Ruso, Becky Miorin and Betty Malloy for their companionship.
Family and friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home on Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 9 to 10AM.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Patrick’s Church. Theresa will be laid to rest beside her husband and sons in Grove Cemetery.
