GLENMONT - Laura Ann (Xander) Hafensteiner passed away peacefully on
March 17, 2021 after a long and beautiful life of 99 years. She was
born in 1921 in Troy, NY to Arthur and Hester Xander. A graduate of
Troy HS, Laura spent most of her professional career working for
Marine Midland Bank (HSBC). Laura was happily married for 47 years
to the late Harmond Hafensteiner. She was predeceased by her son
Marc and is survived by her daughter Bonnie and her daughter-in-law
Sarah Coe Hafensteiner, as well as her beloved grandchildren,
Benjamin (Amanda), Jacob (Amy), Samuel (Caite), and Abigail
(Matthew), seven great grandchildren and her nieces and nephews.
Gram to many, Laura cherished the time spent with immediate,
extended and adopted family. She especially loved wonderful days
with family at the lake in Maine. She famously taught many children
(and adults!) to play card games and sit patiently with a jigsaw
puzzle. Laura was a fine maker of peanut butter fudge, baked beans,
goulash, and a staunch supporter of real butter and biscuits and
Laura was a pioneer for supporting those with disabilities. She
always cared for Bonnie and her friends, promoting inclusion and
full life experiences.
family would like to thank the staff at the Atria in Delmar as well
as the staff at Our Lady of Mercy Life Care Center for their loving
care of Laura.
Private services were held at the convenience of the family. A
celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
