RAVENA- Mary (Conte) Hager, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 28, 2021.  Born in Hannastown, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Jack Conte and Emilia (Tonin) Conte.

Mary graduated from Sewickley High School, Herminie, PA, in 1950 and from the University of Pittsburgh in 1958 with a degree in Education.  She taught English in the Pittsburgh Public Schools, at the Penn Hills School District, and at the State College Central School District before moving to Ravena, where she taught as a substitute teacher while raising her daughter.  Mary retired from the New York State Senate, Office of Senate Research Services as an Editor/Proofreader.

She passionately served her community as an Election Inspector with the Albany County Board of Elections for over 45 years at the polling site in Coeymans Hollow. Strong in faith, she and her husband volunteered together for 18 years at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center as chaplain’s aides.  Mary was an active member of the First Reformed Church of Bethlehem for many years where she served as a Deacon and as Assistant Sunday School Superintendent.

Mary was devoted to her family and was a force of encouragement in all of their pursuits. Her favorite times were spent with family and friends enjoying summers at Brant Lake.  A lifelong Pittsburgh Pirates fan, she enjoyed watching MLB games with her husband. Mary was best known for her wit, kindness, and inquisitive nature.  She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Richard Hager of Ravena; her daughter, Susan Serviss; and granddaughter, Afton Serviss, both of Guilderland.  She was predeceased by her brother, Aldo Conte; and sister, Angeline (Peter) Nescot; and son-in-law Daniel Serviss.

The family wishes to thank all those special people who cared for her in recent years.

A graveside service for Mary will be held at a later date to be announced.  Memorials in Mary’s name can be sent to the First Reformed Church of Bethlehem, 30 Church Road, Selkirk, NY 12158
