Mary (Conte) Hager, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February
28, 2021. Born in Hannastown, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of
the late Jack Conte and Emilia (Tonin) Conte.
graduated from Sewickley High School, Herminie, PA, in 1950 and from
the University of Pittsburgh in 1958 with a degree in Education.
She taught English in the Pittsburgh Public Schools, at the Penn
Hills School District, and at the State College Central School
District before moving to Ravena, where she taught as a substitute
teacher while raising her daughter. Mary retired from the New York
State Senate, Office of Senate Research Services as an
passionately served her community as an Election Inspector with the
Albany County Board of Elections for over 45 years at the polling
site in Coeymans Hollow. Strong in faith, she and her husband
volunteered together for 18 years at the Albany Stratton VA Medical
Center as chaplain’s aides. Mary was an active member of the First
Reformed Church of Bethlehem for many years where she served as a
Deacon and as Assistant Sunday School Superintendent.

their pursuits. Her favorite times were spent with family and
friends enjoying summers at Brant Lake. A lifelong Pittsburgh
Pirates fan, she enjoyed watching MLB games with her husband. Mary
was best known for her wit, kindness, and inquisitive nature. She
will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
