RAVENA – Dorothy Louise Halsted, 93, went to be with the Lord June 23, 2012. She died at home with her loving family by her side. Dorothy was born January 21, 1919 in North Bergen, NJ, daughter of the late Louise and Herbert Hamlin, Sr. They moved to Ravena when she was 5 where she lived the rest of her life. Her husband, Frank E. Halsted predeceased her in 1989 but they were blessed to have 50 wonderful years together.
In her high school years she enjoyed basketball and in later years she enjoyed bowling, riding snowmobiles, crocheting, knitting, sewing and crafts.
Dorothy loved the Lord and had an overflowing love for other people. You could see His love in her smile. For many years she helped Frank on the farm and even drove a tractor. They enjoyed their camp in Speculator, especially when it was full of family, and their home in Florida where they spent winters and enjoyed playing shuffleboard. Their home in Ravena was adorned by Dorothy’s beautiful rock garden.
The family would like to thank and bless Karen Tuscano who so lovingly helped them to care for their mother.
Survivors include her four daughters, Dayle (Edwin) Raynor, JoAnn Gardner, Linda Lee (Anthony) Williams and Hope (Al) Zielinski; 8 grandchildren, Diane Hewitte, Beth (Kevin) Webb, Erika (Houston) Houck, Todd (Dana) Gardner, Anthony (Andrea) Williams, Kelly (Steven) Doggette, Jessica (Brian) Filarecki and Freddie Zielinski; 11 great-grandchildren, Denise, Christopher, Tim, Val, Tess, Joshua, Alexandra, Carlie, Michael, Anthony and Brian Jr; sister, Eva Sorell; and several nieces and nephews.
