RAVENA – George H. Lipscomb passed away peacefully at his home after a long illness on August 12, 2011 with his faithful and devoted wife of 57 ˝ years, Joan, at his bedside. George was born September 15, 1931 in Coeymans, son of the late George and Lue Fannie (Terry) Lipscomb. He graduated from Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School and worked for the former Frangella Mushroom Co for over 50 years. Always one to work, George would go on to sell mushrooms as an independent contractor and later, he would go on to work and retire from D. Brickman Produce in Menands, NY.
George is survived by his devoted wife Joan; his beloved children, George W., Joseph R. (Cheryl), Philip J. (Patricia) and Joan Marie; siblings, sisters, Willie Lee Pounds and Barbara Furlong, brothers, Shirley and William (Alice) Lipscomb; grandchildren, Julius, Kimba, Jamayal, Je’Nay and Shannon; and a host of special nieces and nephews. Also surviving George are his devoted nephew Wildy Pounds, Jr. and his ever faithful special friends, George and Diane Montesano, Lori Nunziato and Carl Sanner.
George’s faith in God allowed him to believe that God would always make a way for those who believed in Him. He loved his family, valued his friends and clients, enjoyed the companionship of his late canine son, Otto and remained loyal to the NY Yankees.
George’s wife Joan and their children would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to all the fine and professional doctors, nurses and staff of St. Peter’s Hospital and New York Oncology Hematology for their unconditional care, compassion and concern for the last ten years. A special expression of gratitude is extended to Dr. Michael Kolodziej who inspired George to stand up to cancer and live.
