MARVIN, NC – Funeral
services for Thelma Jane Palmer, 92, a resident of Marvin, North
Carolina and formerly Ravena, New York, will be held 10:00AM
Thursday, February 4, 2016 at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena.
Friends may pay their respects between 9:00 and 10:00 AM on Thursday
prior to the service. Ms. Palmer passed away Saturday, January 30,
2016 at her daughter’s home in Marvin, North Carolina after a long
illness. Burial will be at Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore.
Thelma was born in July of 1923 in New Baltimore, New York. She was
united in marriage to Walter Smith Jr. of Ravena in 1944. He
preceded her in death in 1974. Thelma later married William W.
Palmer of Ravena. He passed in December of 2003. Ms. Palmer was also
predeceased by her infant son, Walter Smith III, and her two
sisters, Clara Lockwood of Ravena, and Dorothy Imhoff of Saugerties,
Thelma worked twenty years as a secretary for the RCS School
District at Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary School in Ravena. She was
a member of the Congregational Christian Church and enjoyed
gardening and quilting until her illness in 2010.
Ms. Palmer is survived by her daughter, Joy Smith Aldrich (husband
Ronald), grandchildren Adam R. Aldrich and Kelly Keel, and two
great-granddaughters, Amina and Gwyneth.
