Baltimore – Judith Beemer Rhodes, 77, passed into peaceful rest at
her home on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Born in Middletown, NY on April
17, 1935, she was the daughter of the late William H. Beemer and
Helen Comstock Beemer. Her family moved to New Baltimore in the
mid-1940’s, where she quickly developed a life-long love of plants,
birds, and Hudson River wildlife. Judy was a gifted and intelligent,
youthful and meticulous woman with a passion for literature,
genealogy, antiques, travel, gardening, and gourmet cooking and
She was predeceased by the love of her life, best friend and husband
Harold F. Rhodes, whose untimely accidental death in 1985, left her
with a courageous resolve to carry on a legacy of strength, honor
and love. Often sought out as confidante, advisor and counselor,
Judy could always take the time to listen to others burdens and
share kind and practical words of hope. She was always willing to
lend a hand to plan and execute community, church or family events
with a keen eye for style and taste. She was a supporting member of
the Grace United Methodist Church of Ravena and a life member of the
Ladies Auxiliary of the Cornell Hook & Ladder Co. in New Baltimore.
Survivors include her children, Jeffrey (fiancée Kathy) Rhodes and
Susan (Douglas) Roseberger; grandchildren Kyle Geertgens, Brianna
and Hannah Rhodes, Hope and Nathan Roseberger; and sisters Jennifer
Price and Carol Yaas. Also survived by her beloved Aunt Emma Lou C.
Hamilton (age 96); and was like a mother to niece Pamela Trombley
and her children, great nieces and nephews Corie Litchko, Jared and
Charlie Trombley and Amy Shanholtz. Also survived by numerous nieces
and nephews, and great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held 11 am Friday April 12 at the Babcock
Funeral Home, Ravena. Burial followed in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New
Baltimore. Contributions in memory of Judy may be made to the
