RAVENA—Alan
Roland Whitney, 74, passed away peacefully at home on January 19,
2022 surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with
cancer.
Born in Lackawanna, NY on October 29, 1947, he was the
son of the late Roland and Barbara (Salisbury) Whitney. Alan was a
1966 graduate of Bethlehem Central School. Upon graduation he
joined the United States Marine Corps serving during the Vietnam
War, and was honorably discharged with the rank Lance Corporal. He
married Wanda Susser on November 18, 1972 and was a devoted husband
and father and worked hard to support his family. It was extremely
important to him to spend time with his family. Alan enjoyed
playing ball, bowling, shooting darts and going to camp. He loved
helping family and friends.
Alan worked in construction for a while with his dad and brother.
When Owens Corning opened in Feura Bush in 1976, he went to work
there until his retirement in 2009.
Alan was an active member and Trustee of the Grace
United Methodist Church in Ravena and a member of the Delmar
American Legion.
Alan was predeceased by his son, Sgt. Brian Alan Whitney
and brother, Terry L. Whitney. Survivors include his wife, Wanda (Susser)
Whitney; his loving daughter, Holly (Michael) Weddell; grandson,
Devin Alan Whitney; granddaughters Piper A. and Stella R. Weddell;
sister Lori Whitney; sister-in-law, Nancy (Susser) Histed;
brothers-in-law, Wayne (Shirley) Susser, Bruce (Joann) Susser; and
many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 12 PM on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 in
the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena. Friends may call at the funeral
home prior to the service starting at 10 AM. Burial will follow the
service in the Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar. Masks will be required
in the funeral home.
